The Hoosiers is a 1986 film starring Gene Hackman as Coach Norman Dale, Barbara Hershey as    
Myra Fleener, and Dennis Hopper as Shooter. It is about a drunk coach with a bad reputation in a small town high school basketball team that is set to become a top contender for the championship.

The movie is based on the true story of a small-town Indiana team that made the state finals in 1954, this movie chronicles the attempts of a coach with a spotty past, and the town's basketball-loving drunk to lead their high school team to victory.




 

The Milan High School Basketball Team 1954 is the inspiration for this film.
